This week we celebrateFounders’ Week in honor of the day we first opened our doors on September 17, 1912.

這周，我們舉行“創(chuàng)始人紀(jì)念周”活動來慶祝1912年9月17日上海美國學(xué)校的創(chuàng)立。

A school with a history that spans over a century is bound to have some great traditions. At Shanghai American School, the most famous of those traditions is the Bust of Juno.

正文：一所辦學(xué)歷史超過一百年的學(xué)校肯定擁有一些經(jīng)典的傳統(tǒng)。在上海美國學(xué)校，最著名的傳統(tǒng)就是Juno半身像。

Originally a gift from the SAS Class of 1917 to the Class of 1918, the Bust of Juno, a small statue, inspired classes to battle each other for possession of it for decades. The last appearance of her was in 1948 when she was locked away in a trophy case by the school’s administration.

Juno半身像最初只是上海美國學(xué)校1917屆畢業(yè)班贈送給1918屆畢業(yè)班的一份禮物，一個小小的雕像。在接下來幾十年的時間里，每一屆畢業(yè)班都想得到它。這個雕像最后一次露面是在1948年。在此之后，它被學(xué)校的行政管理人員鎖進(jìn)了獎杯箱。

It only took seven decades for the school’s administration to have a change of heart.

七十年過后，上海美國學(xué)校的行政管理人員改變了主意。

“We wanted to pay homage to, and remind us of, our amazing school history,” said SAS high school principal Dr.Ben Lee. “ So we decided to bring Juno back.”

上海美國學(xué)校高中部校長Dr. Ben Lee表示：“我們希望向?qū)W校的悠久歷史致敬，讓人們記住我們學(xué)校的歷史。因此，我們決定讓Juno回歸。”

The Juno tradition was always built on a good-natured class rivalry, and it so happened that SAS’ Pudong campus already had a friendly competition amongst the classes: Each Spirit Week, the high school classes compete against each other in games of Tug of War.

Juno傳統(tǒng)是建立在各個班級之間友好對抗的基礎(chǔ)之上的。上海美國學(xué)校浦東校區(qū)各個班級之間已經(jīng)擁有了一個友誼賽：在每個“校園精神周”期間，高中部各個班級之間都要舉行拔河比賽。

In the high school gym on October 17, 2017, that Tug of War competition would decide which class would be the first since 1948 to possess the Bust of Juno.

2017年10月17日，在高中部體育館內(nèi)，一場拔河比賽將決定哪個班會成為自1948年以來第一個擁有Bust of Juno的班級。

In one semifinal match-up, the Class of 2018 easily handled the Class of 2021. In the other, however, the Class of 2019 found itself in a spirited battle against the younger Class of 2020. After considerable back and forth, the Class of 2020 pulled off the upset, setting up a showdown with the seniors of the Class of 2018. Perhaps drained from their semifinal effort, the sophomores went down in quick order. Juno was at last again the property of an SAS class – from the Class of 1918 to the Class of 2018.

在一場半決賽中，2018屆畢業(yè)班輕松戰(zhàn)勝2021屆畢業(yè)班。在另一場半決賽中，2019屆畢業(yè)班與更加年輕的2020屆畢業(yè)班展開了激烈對抗。經(jīng)過多次“對決”，2020屆畢業(yè)班最終勝出，與2018屆畢業(yè)班會師決賽。也許是因?yàn)榘霙Q賽消耗太多，2020屆畢業(yè)班未能勝出。Juno再一次成為了上海美國學(xué)校畢業(yè)班的財(cái)產(chǎn)，從1918屆畢業(yè)班來到了2018屆畢業(yè)班。

In the tradition of Juno, the statue was kidnapped even before the students had left the gym. She turned up 5 days later in Jinqiao, and has been a “frequent traveler” ever since.

根據(jù)Juno的傳統(tǒng)，這個雕像在學(xué)生們離開體育館之前就被“綁架”了。五天后，它出現(xiàn)在了金橋，自此以后經(jīng)常“出游”。

The Pudong campus held another Spirit Week in the spring, and that time, the Class of 2018 was not able to retain possession. By the time the school year was out, the Bust of Juno belonged to the Class of 2019.

今年春季，上海美國學(xué)校浦東校區(qū)迎來了又一個“校園精神周”。這一次，2018屆畢業(yè)班未能保留所有權(quán)。學(xué)年結(jié)束的時候，Juno半身像成為了2019屆畢業(yè)班的財(cái)產(chǎn)。

And the tradition was back…

就這樣，Juno傳統(tǒng)回來了……
